Don't tell my wife

As you already know, I spend a great deal of time at the golf course. I’m either playing or practicing at the range. When I first started golfing I would see familiar faces from around the neighborhood mainly at the range. I would get irritated when some friend guy would say, “you must be here all the time.” Excuse me, but you can’t see me here, unless you’re at the course also.

My response to these “friends” became, “only since the last time I saw you.” At first, these folks were surprised to see me there so much. They knew I had started playing from the new golf clothes I was sporting at the bus stop, but they didn’t know how truly addicted dedicated I had become to the game.

As I became a permanent fixture on the course, people men stopped commenting on my frequenting the course. Now the comments became, “how’s the game coming,” or “wow, you’re really killing the ball.” Then they started asking for favors: “Please don’t tell my wife you saw me here.”

They said it like I had caught them at a strip club or something. I just had to laugh. When I’m golfing the last thing on my mind is making a mental list of all the husbands I saw on the course that day. Give me a break! The problem is that I know (very casually) many of their wives from school, the soccer field, grocery store, etc. Of course, I have ZERO interest in “outing” anyone for being at the golf course. What kind of home-wrecker do they think I am?

But more importantly why should being at the course be something to lie about? I think that is awful. Why should their wives be upset? After all they AREN'T at the strip club.
