Currently I play with a Titleist NXT Tour ball. I mark my golf balls with a blue dot. But otherwise my balls have no distinguishing characteristics. However, I think I may need to start naming them.Several friends have names on their balls. Everything from simple initials, to animal nicknames and actors' names. I embrace all aspects of golf, but I have not ventured into personalized balls yet. I think it may be time.

Naming my golf balls seems almost as tricky as naming my kids. The name needs to be original and reflective of my personality, yet not too bizarre.
I've been called "Bridget" on the course after Bridget Jones. Besides the same last name, I think it has something to do with Bridget getting herself into crazy situations. I've also heard "Bubbles" once or twice. This one comes from my exuberant golfing style.
Those could work, or I could go with a saying. Something like:
"Drop It"
"PO" Previously Owned
"NYB" Not Your Ball
"Return to Sender"
There are golfers who don't like the idea of playing personalized balls. They don't want others to find their ball and know immediately who hit it into the trees. There's nowhere I haven't been on my golf course so this doesn't bother me. Besides, once you've shared stories about putting with your polka dot underwear showing, everything else seems trivial.
Plus, if I see someone playing a "Bridget" ball I can immediately tell them to give me back my ball. If I find a ball with a name on it I always return it to its original owner. For some reason, it just doesn't seem right to play with someone else's balls.

How soon you forget. LCC, LCC, LCC
And Wiki tells us Billy Dee Williams' main claim to fame was his role on Star Wars. For decades, he was acclaimed one of the best looking men on planet earth and had some other good roles in some great movies. Talk about trivializing somebody's life..!!
What was I thinking? LCC is definitely in contention. Especially for next Saturday when I take on our club champ in match play--no strokes.
New link added for Billy Dee. Point made. :o)
I usually mark my new Pro V1's with this
"If found, please return to Charles Boyer. 919 xxx-xxxx"
Those suckers are expensive!
I kid.
Actually, I just draw a smiley face on them below the logo. It's always a nice reminder to have fun playing the game.
I had just bought "Life is good" pink balls with the little guys face on them. I call him "Frenchy" b/c it looks like he's wearing a beret. Sadly, I lost one on Sunday, in or near one of the creeks on our course.
I'm on the lookout for when someone pulls him out of their bag.
And if you've read in the past, I have "Bob" of squarepants fame.
When I play w/ a white ball though, I don't call them by name, but thanks for the idea.
I have to put a Sharpie in my bag!
Regarding "Naming Your Balls"......on second thought, "Too easy".
Soory, 1st comment had massive typo.
I've called my balls names but I don't name them. I have a very distinct mark on my ball that I haven't seen anyone use (alhtough, you never know) and I'll have to put up a pic sometime. Hmm...you've just inspired me to write about golf balls myself...see that - you're an ispiration!
Name sugg: Dimples.
Or how about Itchy & Scratchy?
For TXQ, I have to add, Hairy...
I don't name my balls, but I do put a single dot on either side of the number and then I draw my kokopelli on the side that does not have the words. I use whatever color I feel like that day.
So if you find a kokopelli 330RX it is mine! :)
I think if I actually named them I would get too attached and I prefer to think of balls as disposable since they seem to get "lost" easily. Then run off into the woods, or want to take a swim...
^ That's why there should be no penalty for a lost ball. It is merely misplaced.
If it is properly marked, when someone finds it and doesn't return it to you it is stolen.
Seems inequitable to me to be punished for something that's stolen from you.
