Spicing Up the Presidents Cup

I once listened to golf on the television while I was recovering from eye surgery. I've also turned on the radio in my car wishing I could find golf. So I'm not a good person to ask which televised golf events are more interesting. I'll watch no matter what.

Okay, if it's a nice day I will play, avoid all media, and then enjoy golf on my TiVo. In some ways, it's better to watch it recorded. It allows me to rewind any Johnny Millerisms I miss, or don't believe I heard correctly.

Still, I have a few thoughts and ideas to share after the first day of the Presidents Cup. First, is alternate shot the best way to start the competition? I LOVE alternate shot. Hubbie and I do well during this part of tourneys. But I must admit it doesn't convey very well to television.

Maybe it would be better to start the tourney with best ball to get the television crowd hooked and then move to alternate shot. Or what about throwing in alternate shot later in the competition when there is more pressure? It could be interesting to see if Tiger Woods goes ballistic on the last day of the tourney when a partner misses a 4-foot putt that he stuck near the pin moments before.

Another idea that could be fun would be to make the team captain draw partner names out of a velvet bag like on Project Runway. Come on, it would be pretty entertaining to see the reaction of an International when he pulls Adam Scott's name. I would be jumping up and down, but I'm not playing.

I would also like to ask The Golf Channel to make a couple of small adjustments. Could we make sure the "Live Golf Channel" logo is not placed directly over the hole? I know it takes players several minutes to line up a putt, but I think TGC can meet this production time-challenge.

The blue putting line is another bone of contention for me. In some ways it's nice to demonstrate the contour of the green. However, it makes me feel like I'm playing Wii golf. Let the white ball roll as it may and illustrate the line for us.

Furthermore, I believe it can be confusing for the TV audience when the ball follows the line perfectly and then steers to the side of the hole. The Golf Channel then moves the blue line to reflect the actual read of the putt. Let's just ditch the blue line and focus on keeping the logo from covering the hole. Deal?

Finally, I believe the reason the first day was so close was because both teams wore similar gray pants.

You're way off base about the competition. It should be kept as it is. But that said, you could not be more right about the Golf Channel coverage. The quasi-scientific moving blue line is just funny.

(geez - leave it to the women to want to keep rearranging the furniture after the ballgame has started) :-D

You're trying to saddle the horse after it's out of the barn on this one, Heather. You can't go back and replay the first day to have four balls first.

The order of play is determined by the host captain. Freddie said alternate shot first.

"Okay, if it's a nice day I will play, avoid all media,"

Huh. I figured it was next to impossible for someone like you to play a round and avoid all those cameramen. They can be such worms, no?

Hear, hear!!!Agree with everything you said. I wondered if anyone else felt the same way about the blue line as I did and now I've found out that maybe it's not me that's insane.

Never liked that alternate-shot format. Doesn't seem professional. Downright silly.

And yeah, let's ditch that silly blue line. I mean, ya gotta draw the line somewhere, no?

That made sense, right?

The Golf Channel is annoying on so many levels.

Patricia, have you tried placing your TV on the floor?

The blue line thing drives me nuts! Especially since it's seldom the right line, LOL! Frankly, I have to agree with the entire post, as always. I'd make a great *straight (wo)man*, huh? You need someone to laugh at all your jokes? That's me. You need someone to laugh at nearly everything you say? That's me. I am truly in the wrong line of work... What am I saying? I don't really really even work, LOL!

I've got to say that I just love courtgolf's and TXQ's humor. What a couple of funny crazies! (I mean that in the nicest possible way.)

Thanks, Snooty Primadonna. Nice of you to say, but next time I prefer top billing. I'm quite serious about this.
